“The Future Is Scrap”: Aperam Recycling in the Spotlight of Duisport Magazine

07.04.2026

Duisburg, April 7, 2026 –  In the current issue of duisport magazine (01/2026), a feature article explains how our high-quality recycling of stainless steel and superalloys yields important secondary raw materials for the manufacturing industry. The editorial team visited Aperam Recycling at its Duisburg site, where Patrick Willems and Dr. Markus Larres from the COO team in Europe provided detailed insights into stainless steel recycling and the green side of the harbour.

Under the title: “Where the future is built from scrap,” the article highlights the importance of material cycles and their positive impact on our climate. It clearly demonstrates that, for us at Aperam Recycling, scrap is not waste, but rather the foundation for a future-oriented business model.

Understanding the Circular Economy

The article offers a behind-the-scenes look from the arrival of scrap at the site, through the precise analysis and processing of the material, to its return to the production cycle. As an integral part of Aperam and a specialist in the recycling of stainless steel and special alloys, Aperam Recycling is a key player  in the international circular economy. In this way, the company makes a valuable contribution to a more sustainable future.

Value Creation That Inspires

Author Denis de Haas is visibly impressed by the daily work here on site and the complexity of the processes. Nevertheless, he successfully conveys our team’s passion for the material, the industry, and both existing and future challenges. In particular, the article highlights the diverse applications of our secondary raw materials and illustrates the importance of our  high quality standards.

Dr. Markus Larres concludes by capturing the essence of the article:

“Scrap is part of our DNA.”
